World Series Final Game Attracts 51M Audience Members Across the US, Canadian and Japanese Markets.

The exciting extra-inning contest that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 drew a total over 50 million viewers in the United States, Canadian, and Japan markets. Major League Baseball stated this is the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 edition contest between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Television Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s epic contest drew 27.33M audience members on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. According to ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 edition final game between the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This represents a sixteen percent increase compared to the previous Game 7 between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked 4th, Game 4 was 7th, Game 5 came in eighth, and Game 3 landed in 13th position.

Global Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game drew over 11 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English-language broadcast in Canada after the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it averaged 12M. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – drew over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a single network in Japan.

Overall Totals and Trends

The full seven-match series averaged 15.71 million viewers on the Fox network, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This represents the initial instance since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen viewership growth for two straight seasons.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the total American average reached 16.1 million. The overall World Series average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels averaged over 8 million viewers, an 8% rise over the previous year and the network’s strongest playoff ratings after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball stated that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 nations and regions by 44 media partners in sixteen various tongues.
